Two hotels, and reasons to arrive this week

Two established hotels enter our selection this week. Neither is a new opening. The reason to look again is what happens around them: an alpine descent in Flims and an evening of mountain history in Pontresina.

A front-row choice in Fidaz

The Flimserstein descent on 19 September passes through Bargis and Fidaz towards Flims, with a celebration at FidazerHof from 11:00. Staying where people gather is a deliberate choice. It favours joining the day over seeking an undisturbed retreat.

FidazerHof makes more sense when selected by room category. The operator describes Pinut rooms of 18–24 m² with a sitting area and small writing desk. Belmont rooms are larger, at 30–37 m², and separate the sleeping area. For a couple extending a weekend, that distinction matters more than another list of facilities: one offers a compact base, the other more room to spend part of the day indoors.

Ask about the room's position and event-day access. The village occasion is the attraction, but it is not evidence that every room will be quiet. Walkers should also note the organiser's temporary closure of the Scala Mola path between Tegia Gronda and Bargis from 10:30 to 12:30.

Room to spread out in Pontresina

Hotel Saratz is the more expansive proposition. Its historic Chesa Nouva and later Ela Tuff wing sit alongside a park the operator measures at 35,000 m². It also describes family arrangements connecting a bedroom and salon. That gives a family a specific configuration to enquire about, rather than relying on a generic family-friendly label. Specify the wing and room arrangement: the historic-house idea and the newer accommodation are not interchangeable.

On 18 September, Museum Alpin's museum-night programme runs from 17:00 to 22:00. A hotel base makes it possible to put an evening visit at the centre of the stay rather than treat Pontresina as a daytime stop.

There is a practical update too. The municipality's Punt Ota repair notice distinguishes an evening road closure on 10 September, now past, from continuing alternating traffic during the works. Pedestrian passage is maintained. Do not carry the expired closure into next week's travel plan.

Choose Fidaz for participation in a village occasion; choose Saratz for a hotel-and-park stay with more internal space. Neither selection represents a checked room allocation or a dated price.
